Welcome to the World Congress!

We’ll kick off the World Congress with welcoming words from Survivor Alliance’s Executive Director, Minh Dang, setting the environment and tone for the four days to come.

We will also engage in a Community Building activity to get to know each other. We’ll try not to be too cringy with the ice breakers!

You Ask(ed), We Answer

10:00am-11:00am | Amani room | Allies Only

We know that there are sometimes questions that our allies are hesitant to ask about survivor engagement, for fear of coming off as offensive or ignorant. We think these unspoken questions will get in the way of survivor-ally collaborations. We will answer pre-submitted anonymous questions and anything else that arises.

Skill Building & Knowledge Building Workshops

Interrupting Trauma - Increasing Trauma Literacy
Facilitator: Sharon Hawkins Leyden, Leyden Ventures LLC
Develop a common language about trauma that depathologizes survivors of trauma. This session is designed for people working with survivors as lived experience experts and leaders, not as service recipients. You will learn why trauma literacy is important to anyone working in the anti-trafficking sector as it frames how we approach survivors and how we can truly be trauma-informed, instead of what we call trauma-centered.

Shifting from a Top Down Approach
Facilitator: Stacey Katz and West Coast Children’s Clinic (WCCC) staff
West Coast Children’s Clinic is a community-based, children’s mental health clinic and provides services to survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation. They have developed an approach within their team to address power and privilege, while honoring the expertise of all staff, including people with lived experience. The WCCC team will share why it’s important all practitioners are self-reflective and open up the session to engage directly with participants’ real world challenges.
